Quick Answer: TOSOT is a Gree brand, and its mini splits carry the same ENERGY STAR ratings as Gree’s own units. ENERGY STAR lists Gree Electric Appliances as the partner on all 504 TOSOT listings. The best value is TOSOT Direct’s Aoraki 12k ($1,299.99 on November 5, 2026): 24.5 SEER2, heating down to -22°F and 11,000 BTU/h at 5°F. That’s the same rating set as Gree’s Vireo R32 12k and TOSOT’s dealer-only Pular 26 12k. The cheapest is the TOSOT Direct 12k at $809.99 (19 SEER2, -13°F). Neither is DIY: every TOSOT line uses flared connections that need a technician. The TOSOT Direct warranty is 5 years, parts only.
TOSOT sells mini splits in the U.S. through two separate storefronts. TOSOT Supplies (tosot.com) sells the Zeno 17, Charmo 20, Pular 26 and Clivia 26 lines through dealers and contractors, with no public prices. TOSOT Direct (tosotdirect.com) sells online to homeowners, under Gree model numbers, with prices on the page. We compared both lineups against TOSOT’s own submittal sheets and ENERGY STAR’s certified-product dataset (18,024 mini- and multi-split pairings, downloaded November 5, 2026). In that dataset, the ENERGY STAR partner on every one of the 504 TOSOT-branded listings is Gree Electric Appliances Inc. of Zhuhai. We don’t install or test these systems ourselves; the figures below are TOSOT’s and ENERGY STAR’s.
TOSOT’s two U.S. storefronts compared
| TOSOT Supplies (tosot.com) | TOSOT Direct (tosotdirect.com) | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it sells to | Preferred TOSOT dealers and contractors | Homeowners, online |
| Single-zone lines | Zeno 17, Charmo 20, Pular 26, Clivia 26 (R-32); Charmo 19, Pular 25 (R-410A) | Standard "Cosmo" 9k-36k and Aoraki 12k-24k (R-32) |
| Model numbers | TOSOT codes (TWH12PD32AI / TWH12PD32AO) | Gree codes (GWH12AUCXD-D6DNA1B) |
| Public prices | No, contractor quote | Yes, $699.99-$2,499 for wall-mount single-zone |
| Warranty | 10 years compressor, 10 years parts (licensed pro install, residential) | 5 years parts, plus 6 months if registered within 30 days; no labor |
| Install | Licensed professional | Your own licensed HVAC pro (TOSOT Direct lists independent installers) |
The storefront you buy from changes the warranty more than the hardware does. The two lineups also overlap: TOSOT Direct’s Aoraki 12k is listed in ENERGY STAR’s data with the same 24.5 SEER2 / 13.0 EER2 / 9.5 HSPF2 and 11,000 BTU/h at 5°F as the dealer-only Pular 26 12k. The TOSOT Direct 12k (outdoor model SU-COSMO12-230) matches the Charmo 20 12k on every ENERGY STAR figure.

Ratings for the TOSOT Supplies lines come from TOSOT’s submittal sheets on tosot.com, and the TOSOT Direct ratings from ENERGY STAR’s dataset (the TOSOT Direct sound figure is from its listing). HSPF2 is the Region IV figure. The Zeno 17 submittal lists only a Region IV HSPF2 and no AHRI reference number, and no Zeno pairing appears in ENERGY STAR’s data. Prices are tosotdirect.com listings checked November 5, 2026.
1. TOSOT Direct Aoraki 12k — Best Value
TOSOT Aoraki 24.5 SEER2 12,000 BTU Heat Pump Mini Split (GWH12AUCXD-D6DNA1B, 230V)
- ENERGY STAR lists the 230V pairing (SU-AORAKI12-230) at 24.5 SEER2, 13.0 EER2 and 9.5 HSPF2, with 11,000 BTU/h at 5°F and a cold-climate flag. The 115V version has the same efficiency ratings but 9,500 BTU/h at 5°F.
- TOSOT Direct rates it to run from -22°F to 122°F outdoors and ships it with a 16 ft line set.
- Takes TOSOT Direct's $199.99 energy recovery ventilator, a two-way fresh-air module rated at 17.6 CFM that the listing says works only with Aoraki units. TOSOT says it lines up best with the 12k indoor unit.
- The 115V version was tagged pre-order on November 5, 2026.
The Aoraki is the only TOSOT system with the cold-climate Pular rating set that you can buy online at a listed price. For $490 more than the standard TOSOT Direct 12k, you get 5.5 more SEER2 points, a -22°F heating floor instead of -13°F, and 1,900 BTU/h more heat at 5°F (11,000 vs 9,100). Compared with the Pioneer Quantum Hyperformance 12k, which Pioneer listed at $1,363-$1,398 on November 5 with 25 SEER2 and 12,000 BTU/h at 5°F, the Aoraki gives up a little cold-weather output for a similar price. Our Pioneer mini split review covers that unit.
2. TOSOT Direct 12k (Cosmo) — Cheapest
TOSOT 12,000 BTU Mini-Split Heat Pump Air Conditioner, 230V (TST-SU-C12K23) or 120V (TST-SU-C12K11)
- ENERGY STAR lists the 230V pairing at 19.0 SEER2, 9.75 EER2 and 8.5 HSPF2, with 9,100 BTU/h at 5°F, flagged cold-climate. These are the same figures as TOSOT's Charmo 20 12k and Gree's Livo R32 12k.
- Rated to heat down to -13°F, with Wi-Fi, R-32 refrigerant and a 16 ft line set included.
- Both voltages cost $809.99. ENERGY STAR lists the 115V Charmo-class 12k at 8,500 BTU/h at 5°F, so the 230V version is the better heater.
- Check the model numbers on the box. On November 5, the model line on the 230V 12k listing named the 18,000 BTU pair (GWH18AWDXD / GWH18ATDXD).
At $809.99, this is less than half the price of Gree’s own Livo R32 12k, which has the same ratings and was listed at $1,379-$1,965 when we checked Gree retailers on October 28 for our Gree mini split review. The trade-off is the warranty: 5 years parts only, with no labor. In a mild or moderate climate, it’s one of the cheapest ENERGY STAR cold-climate 12k systems we’ve found. For more cheap systems, see our best budget mini split roundup.
3. TOSOT Pular 26 — Best Through a Dealer
TOSOT Pular 26 Series, 9,000-24,000 BTU (TWH09/12/18/24PD32AI + PD32AO)
- 12k submittal: 24.5 SEER2, 13.0 EER2, 9.5 HSPF2 (8.0 in Region V), 12,000 BTU/h at 17°F and 11,000 BTU/h at 5°F, COP 1.95 at 5°F. The 9k reaches 26.0 SEER2 and 10.4 HSPF2.
- TOSOT's extended-rating tables put the 12k at 8,632 BTU/h at -22°F (70°F return air), which is 72% of its 12,000 BTU rating.
- Needs only a 15 A breaker at 12k (MCA 10 A). The 24k needs a 30 A breaker and has a 22,000 BTU/h rated cooling capacity, below its nameplate size.
- Indoor unit runs as low as 20 dB(A). It can send a 24 V signal to a third-party backup heater through an optional XE71-00/E board, and the outdoor unit has a heated drain pan.
Pular 26 is the line to ask a TOSOT dealer for if the mini split will be your main heat. The extended ratings show the 12k still putting out 8,632 BTU/h at -22°F. The backup-heat output also lets an electric baseboard or furnace take over on the coldest nights. The catch is that you can’t price it online, so get a quote that names the exact TWH model numbers.
4. TOSOT Clivia 26 — Best With Fresh Air
TOSOT Clivia 26 Series, 9,000-24,000 BTU (TWH09/12/18/24KD32AI + PD32AO)
- Uses the Pular 26 outdoor unit (TWH12PD32AO at 12k), so the 12k submittal lists the same 24.5 SEER2 and 9.5 HSPF2. ENERGY STAR lists the TWH12KD32AI pairing at 11,000 BTU/h at 5°F.
- Heats down to -22°F and cools up to 122°F, per the submittal.
- Adds TOSOT's optional two-way fresh-air module (mini ERV), "AI adaptive" energy optimization and indoor self-cleaning.
Choose Clivia over Pular only if you want the fresh-air module, for example in a tight new build or a bedroom that gets stuffy with the door shut. The heating hardware is the same. Clivia is the dealer-channel version of what TOSOT Direct sells as the Aoraki with ERV, and ENERGY STAR files the 24k Aoraki pairing under the Clivia series name.
5. TOSOT Charmo 20 — Widest Size Range
TOSOT Charmo 20 Series, 9,000-36,000 BTU (TWH09-36CD32AI + CD32AO; 115V TWH09/12CA32)
- 12k submittal: 19.0 SEER2, 9.75 EER2, 8.5 HSPF2, 9,100 BTU/h at 5°F, heating down to -13°F, 15 A breaker.
- It's the only TOSOT wall-mount line that goes up to 30k and 36k. The 36k is rated 21.0 SEER2 with 24,600 BTU/h at 5°F, a 35 A breaker and a 123 lb outdoor unit.
- 115V versions of the 9k and 12k. The 115V 12k drops to 8,500 BTU/h at 5°F and needs a 20 A circuit (MCA 19 A).
- TOSOT's extended ratings stop at -15°F for the 12k (8,030 BTU/h); there are no figures for -20°F or -22°F.
Charmo 20 is TOSOT’s standard line. It makes sense for cooling-first homes, and it’s the only TOSOT line to get a 30k or 36k wall unit from a dealer. Its SEER2, HSPF2 and 5°F ratings match the TOSOT Direct standard units at every size from 9k to 36k, so if your contractor’s quote for a Charmo 20 12k runs well past $809.99 plus labor, ask why.
Skip: TOSOT Zeno 17
Zeno 17 is TOSOT’s entry line (“Smart Choice for Cost-Conscious Installs,” in TOSOT’s words). The 12k submittal lists 17.0 SEER2, 8.55 EER2 and a single Region IV HSPF2 of 8.0. It draws 1,406 W at rated cooling, against 923 W for the Pular 26 12k. No Zeno pairing was in ENERGY STAR’s dataset on November 5, and the submittals carry no AHRI reference number, so it is unlikely to qualify for rebates that require either. Unless a contractor prices it far below a Charmo 20, the Charmo is the better buy for about the same install work.
Is TOSOT just Gree?
For the hardware ratings, the data says yes. ENERGY STAR names Gree Electric Appliances Inc. of Zhuhai as the partner on all 504 TOSOT listings. The rating sets line up exactly with Gree’s own U.S. models:
| 12k rating set (SEER2 / EER2 / HSPF2, heat at 5°F) | TOSOT versions | Gree's own version | Listings with this set |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24.5 / 13.0 / 9.5, 11,000 BTU/h | Pular 26, Clivia 26, Aoraki (TOSOT Direct) | Vireo R32 12k (VIR12HP230V1R32AO) | 39 listings, 13 brand names |
| 19.0 / 9.75 / 8.5, 9,100 BTU/h | Charmo 20, TOSOT Direct 12k | Livo R32 12k (LIV12HP230V1R32AO) | 23 listings, 8 brand names |
The 13 brand names on the Pular-class 12k rating set include TOSOT, GREE, Blueridge, Airtemp, Gibson, Intertherm, Kinghome and Boreal. Identical ENERGY STAR figures don’t prove every part is identical. They do show that these units carry the same certified performance, so the price, the warranty and who services it are what separate them.
TOSOT warranty vs Gree’s
| Seller | Compressor | Parts | Labor | Conditions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TOSOT Supplies (dealer) | 10 years | 10 years | Not stated | Sold by TOSOT Supplies, licensed pro install, residential, preferred dealers only |
| TOSOT Direct (online) | 5 years (whole unit) | 5 years, +6 months if registered within 30 days | Not covered | Original buyer only, non-transferable, improper install excluded |
| Gree, standard dealer | 7 years | 5 years | See dealer | Register within 90 days |
| Gree, Select Dealer | 10 years | 10 years | See dealer | Gree Select Dealer install |
TOSOT Direct’s warranty page says it covers “replacement parts and standard shipping.” Labor, service calls, removal and reinstallation are not covered unless TOSOT’s technical support approves them in writing. On a $809.99 system, a single compressor swap by a technician can cost more than the unit, so set aside money for labor. Returns of unused units are accepted within 15 days, with a 20% restocking fee from day 15 to day 30 and no returns after 30 days. Gree’s terms come from our Gree review, and our warranty registration guide explains why the registration deadlines matter.
Can you install a TOSOT mini split yourself?
Not as a quick-connect DIY job. Every TOSOT submittal we read lists flared refrigerant connections. Per the submittals, the outdoor units come pre-charged for 25 ft of line (0.2 oz of R-32 per extra foot), with a maximum line length of 66 ft on the 9k-12k units and 131 ft on the 24k-36k units. A flared R-32 system still needs a vacuum, a leak check and a correct charge for longer lines. TOSOT Direct says installation “must be arranged separately with a licensed HVAC professional,” and it runs a directory of independent installers, many listed with EPA certification. If you want to do the install yourself, MRCOOL’s pre-charged quick-connect systems are the standard option. MRCOOL listed its 5th Gen E Star 12k 115V at $2,370 on November 5, almost three times the TOSOT Direct 12k. Our best DIY mini split guide compares them.
TOSOT multi-zone systems
TOSOT Direct sells multi-zone kits with the indoor heads included. On November 5 it listed an 18k dual-zone (9k + 9k) at $1,799, a 24k dual-zone (12k + 12k) at $2,299.99, a 30k dual- or tri-zone at $2,799, a 36k dual-zone at $3,299, a 36k tri-zone at $3,399 and a 36k quad-zone (4 x 9k) at $3,499.99. All are rated 21 SEER2 with heating down to -22°F, per the listings. The listings also quote a “COP 12” or “COP 13.” No heat-pump COP test produces a number like that. ENERGY STAR records COPs at 5°F of 1.75-2.40 across TOSOT’s pairings. On the dealer side, TOSOT’s Multi Ultra Heat outdoor units (18k-60k) run up to six indoor units, rated up to 21.0 SEER2 and 10.0 HSPF2 with heating down to -22°F. Our multi-zone mini split guide covers when one outdoor unit makes sense.
TOSOT Direct prices by size
| Size | Standard (Cosmo) price | Standard ENERGY STAR ratings | Aoraki price (no ERV) | Aoraki ENERGY STAR ratings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9,000 BTU | $699.99 | 20.5 SEER2 / 8.8 HSPF2, 7,600 BTU/h at 5°F | Not sold | - |
| 12,000 BTU | $809.99 | 19.0 / 8.5, 9,100 BTU/h | $1,299.99 | 24.5 / 9.5, 11,000 BTU/h |
| 18,000 BTU | $1,099.99 | 20.0 / 8.5, 12,100 BTU/h | $1,800 | 24.5 / 9.0, 14,600 BTU/h |
| 24,000 BTU | $1,299 (compare-at $1,599) | 19.0 / 8.5, 15,700 BTU/h | $2,199 | 23.5 / 9.0, 18,000 BTU/h (22,000 BTU/h rated cooling) |
| 30,000 BTU | $2,199 | 22.0 / 9.0, 23,000 BTU/h | Not sold | - |
| 36,000 BTU | $2,499 (pre-order, ships end of December) | 21.0 / 8.5, 24,600 BTU/h (33,600 BTU/h rated cooling) | Not sold | - |
The standard ratings are ENERGY STAR’s figures for the matching TOSOT and Gree outdoor models (SU-COSMO and GWH18ATDXD); Aoraki ratings are for the SU-AORAKI pairings. At 24,000 BTU, the $1,299 TOSOT Direct unit undercuts every 2-ton system in our best 2 ton mini split roundup, though it has the weakest warranty of the group.
What the efficiency gap is worth
Upgrading from the $809.99 TOSOT Direct 12k (19.0 SEER2, 8.5 HSPF2) to the $1,299.99 Aoraki 12k (24.5 SEER2, 9.5 HSPF2) costs $490. Over 1,000 full-load cooling hours, the standard unit uses about 632 kWh (12,000 BTU x 1,000 h / 19.0) and the Aoraki 490 kWh, a 142 kWh difference. If it also delivers 20 million BTU of heat a season, the HSPF2 gap saves another 248 kWh (2,353 vs 2,105 kWh). At the EIA’s August 2026 U.S. average residential rate of 18.16 cents per kWh, that’s about $71 a year, so the upgrade pays for itself in about 7 years on efficiency alone. In a cold climate, the bigger reason to choose the Aoraki is the extra 1,900 BTU/h at 5°F and the -22°F heating floor. Our power consumption guide shows how to run these numbers for your own usage.
Federal tax credit note
Several TOSOT Direct listings still say “Energy Star Certified with tax rebate eligibility.” The federal 25C energy-efficient home improvement credit no longer applies: the IRS says it isn’t allowed for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Utility and state rebates still exist in many areas, and most require ENERGY STAR or cold-climate certification, which the Cosmo, Aoraki, Charmo 20, Pular 26 and Clivia 26 pairings have and the Zeno 17 does not.
The bottom line
For most buyers, the TOSOT to get is the Aoraki 12k from TOSOT Direct at $1,299.99. It has the same certified ratings as Gree’s Vireo R32 12k and TOSOT’s own Pular 26 (24.5 SEER2, 11,000 BTU/h at 5°F, heating down to -22°F) at a listed price. Budget for a licensed installer and for labor if anything fails, because the warranty covers parts only. In a mild climate, the TOSOT Direct 12k at $809.99 is one of the cheapest ENERGY STAR cold-climate 12k systems available. If you’d rather have a 10-year parts and compressor warranty, ask a TOSOT dealer to quote the Pular 26. Skip the Zeno 17. If TOSOT’s warranty terms put you off, the same ratings are sold under Gree and other brand names. Start with our mini split brands guide or the best mini split roundup.
